Some Resolutions

the end is in sight. fuck yes.
goals for 2009. ahemmmmmm let me see.

1) eat less red meat. my cholesterol level must be insane. daily intake of beef, bread, butter and beer. it doesn't help that our pomme frites are cooked in pork lard.

2) date to marry. do you hear me?! all you rejects get away, i mean it.

3) limit television to two hours. toughest one by far...

nothing else comes to mind but i'll make sure to update.

p.s. UPDATE YOUR BLOGS. JEANNEEEEE

well, ok

things have leveled off.

im now officially back at home. although its boring as fuck, i do have a comfy room WITH a tv (expecting hbo) and free homecook meals. PLUS my dogs are right there to cheer me up.

but its good. things feel more stable and grounded. i choose boring over drama.

OH. thank the heavens for lower gas prices. seriously, thank you to whoever made that happen. now that i commute to work, its something less to stress about.

while im on here. i'd like to say, I strongly dislike yelpers-a group of negative, pretend know-it-all "foodies." there is more to this rant but its not me to be negative. TEE HEEE

*tis december. =)

i will wait out the rest of the year in my room. in bed.

that and my law applications aren't in yet. fuck everything. birds are dying. roses have thorns. and im truly emo.

whatever. josh groban will get me through this.

i googled peaceful pictures.

"But whatever the case, watching Obama, I can't help myself. I feel proud of us. I think the world is actually proud of us too, and more than a little surprised. It didn't think we had it in us. To tell you the truth, neither did I. We -- well, actually, you -- didn't elect a black man to the presidency. You elected someone who is an incredibly inspiring man, a Kennedyesque, Lincolnesque, Rooseveltesque man, who happens to be black. You elected him not because of or in spite of his race, but without regard to his race, and whether he lives up to even the 100th part of his promise, the electorate has lived up to its, and sitting here now, embarrassedly wiping my eyes, I sort of wish I had been part of it."

Thinking of Good Vibrations

Tralalalalala.

We are only thinking cheerful thoughts today, people. America did good. Enjoy.

Even if you voted for John McCain, be happy. You’ve got the best of all worlds. Today, you can bask in the realization that there are billions of people around the planet who loathed our country last week but are now in awe of its capacity to rise above historic fears and prejudices, that once again, the United States will have a president the world wants to follow.

Then later, when things get screwed up, you can point out that it’s not your fault.

About the inevitable disasters: I am sorry to tell you, excited youth of America, that Barack Obama is going to make mistakes. And the country’s broke. Perhaps we should have mentioned this before. But let’s leave all that to 2009. When somebody runs one of the best presidential campaigns ever, he deserves a little time to enjoy the sweet spot between achievement of a goal and the arrival of the consequences.

Let’s hear it for the voters. Good turnout, guys — especially you Virginians who stood in line for seven hours. A professor at George Mason University who studies this sort of thing claims that there hasn’t been such a high participation level since 1908. You could turn out to be the ever-elusive answer to the question: “Name one thing that Barack Obama has in common with William Howard Taft?”

Let’s hear it for Hillary Clinton, who lost but made the country comfortable with the idea of a woman as chief executive. And Joe Biden, who actually ran a disciplined campaign, given his truly exceptional capacity to say weird things.

And let’s give a shout-out to John McCain. As desperate as he was, he still passed up opportunities to poke hard at the nation’s fault lines of race, religion and region — although he has probably created a permanent gap between the rest of us and segments of the country who feel under imminent threat from Bill Ayers.

McCain ran a dreadful campaign, but it’s over. Give the guy a break. He was stuck with George Bush. And the Republican Party. And the fact that he was constitutionally incapable of giving a decent speech. The road was hard, but he soldiered on and did a lovely concession Tuesday night. Kudos.

Sarah Palin did go over the top with her small towns vs. the world mantra. However, she does get credit for giving us a real understanding of the difference between a moose and a caribou.

O.K., there is nothing positive to say about Sarah Palin. And Alaska, are you re-electing Ted Stevens? What’s going on there? Did you actually believe him when he said that the court verdict was still up in the air? On the day after he was found guilty? By the way, if Stevens does win, it will be with about 106,000 votes. In total. There are more people than that in my immediate neighborhood! What kind of state is this, anyway?

But we’re in a good mood, so let’s forget Alaska. Instead, we’ll contemplate the fact that North Carolina tossed Elizabeth Dole out of office despite her ad campaign aimed at convincing the state that her opponent, Kay Hagan, was an atheist. This was accomplished, you may remember, through the creative strategy of showing Hagan’s picture along with another woman’s voice saying: “There is no God!” If Dole had won, by the next election we would have been bombarded with ads that appeared to show candidates saying “I support adultery!” or “Let’s kill the puppies!” Now that won’t happen. Thank you, North Carolina.

By the way, I believe that during the campaign McCain’s great friend Senator Lindsey Graham said something along the line of promising to drown himself if North Carolina went for Obama. I believe I speak for us all, Senator Graham, when I say that we are feeling extremely mellow today and you do not have to follow through.

Congratulations to Senator Susan Collins on her re-election. The entire moderate Republican caucus in the Senate may now wind up consisting of women from Maine. As Maine goes, so go the Supreme Court nominations.

Finally, on behalf of the baby-boom generation, I would like to hear a little round of applause before we cede the stage to the people who were too young to go to Woodstock and would appreciate not having to listen to the stories about it anymore. It looks as though we will be represented in history by only two presidents, one of whom is George W. Bush. Bummer.

The boomers didn’t win any wars and that business about being self-involved was not entirely unfounded. On the other hand, they made the nation get serious about the idea of everybody being created equal. And now American children are going to grow up unaware that there’s anything novel in an African-American president or a woman running for the White House.

We’ll settle for that.

October 08, 2008 7:32 am
I have always thought there was a subtle, horrible gender inequality in regard to the customer's treatment of the server. I feel sick when I see men using female servers to stroke their egos: expecting them to laugh at their cheesy jokes, to withstand their flirtation and expansive self-regard for the sake of a tip. It's a form of prostitution and my heart goes out to all the female servers that have to deal with it every day.

— bandc, Seattle, WA

* i appreciate your empathy.

and to you miss oregon...

2008 7:32 am
When a woman and a younger man dine together, the waitress should refrain from flirting with the man, leaving the woman out of the conversation or jokes. If I get left out of her attention, she gets left out of a good tip from me. I do appreciate being served first and I consider it poor manners when any server replies to my 'thank you' with a 'no problem'. The worst, though is having a server approach your table and ask if 'you guys ' are ready to order. Women are not guys, guys.

— gratefully, southern Oregon

...unclench. no one likes you. especially that younger man.

Water Runs Dry

this week has been particularly hard. for many reasons.

one, I just got back from the best trip with kyle, david, mark, sebastian and kathy. so looking at the owner's ugly face is a drastic and unpleasant change (you stupid fucker).

unfortunately i have no pictorial proof of this wonderful trip. while i am never the annoying person to take head shots of myself i also don't have any pictures to share or help me relive.

but this is what we did:
- hiked to waterfalls and up streams, swam in freezing ice water, drank much beer and jack/ginger, smoked ____ , ate every preserved meat known to man, sat by the fire, showered in gas chambers, laughed at and with certain people and other mountain man things.

right now, i am in the back of mark's blazer floating down the nile. with all the beautiful colors.

general conclusion...i keep great great great company. it spoils me.

J. A. P

i was going to write another post dedicated to me feeling sorry for myself. ahahhaa. its a natural talent.

but i've decided to spare you. Plus its humiliating to bitch about the state of my affairs when i am sitting in my own apt, on a computer, with a delicious beer in an ice cold glass, talking to beloved friends who have never let me down and so on.

at times a good punch in the face is all i need.

anyway. this is a post for my justine and prisca. i'll drink whatever you give me. (and that for me is how i show true love).

pool and house party.

summer flings.

there are girls who are cute and feminine even when drunk.
then there is us.

AHAHHAHAHA.

i miss you all. more than you'll ever know.

I like...people who make me laugh, gilmore girls, nigella lawson, directors, dogs, comfortable friendships, being around my mom, reading, jim and dwight, dance in most forms, cracking my toes, gmail, jenny and jeff's bbq, ginger ale, tattoos, jeanne's SAT score, oyster bars, dave chappelle and petite guys. brewco, of course. steve nash. raging waters.

wood nymphs.

I dislike...picky eaters, parallel parking, jiro the sushi man, bullshit, hummers, people who drive hummers, ucla email, bras, coffee, littering. and Nip/Tuck. yellow fever. miscommunication. people who pat my head.

bane of my existence

do you know what would be fan-freakin-tastic?!

if i could stop getting bites.
what the fuck is wrong with me that i always get bitten but everyone who shares my surroundings don't. i can't comprehend it.

i wash my sheets every other day. cassie and mable can testify. shower twice a day sometimes more if i am bored. started taking vitamin b in hopes that i can make my blood taste bad. sleep with a night light so that the motherfuckers will drown in the soapy water i've set for them. bomb my room. cover my body head to toe in bug repellent when i sleep.

what more can i do.

can't fucking deal with it anymore. and now my legs are permanently fucked up with scars.

p.s. i am freakin sensitive about this issue. one comment about how my personal hygiene is at fault for my bites, i'll stop talking to you.

other than the current jobless situation, losing my diamond bar oasis and my superb taste in guys. whine whine.
things are grand.

YESS

It finally feels like a LA summer.

moved out of my shit hole of an apartment. happy would be an understatement. now i am here at justine's. its super chill--forgot what its like to live with my people.

today: after losing my car keys. i decided not to go in for my last day at asakuma. best decision ever. instead watched wanted and kungfu panda. with dinner and spontaneity, it had to be the perfect summer chilling.

i am going to cut back on work. this year-off was suppose to be fun, not stress reincarnated.

Thursday, June 5, 2008

I wanted you to be one of the first to know: on Saturday, I will hold an event in Washington D.C. to thank everyone who has supported my campaign. Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.

On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.

I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.

When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.

I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.

I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.

I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.

In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.

I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

make my day

i have no sense of time now. my days are so busy that yesterday seems weeks away.
bay to breakers was two weeks ago but i swear it happened last quarter.

as usual. it was super fun.

hanging with lauren and kyle is always hilarious. plus david in his element is quite impressive. and mable dressed up as a hybrid of chinese fob and hippie doesn't let me down.

i really really really like san francisco. now i see what every nor cal person raves about. people there are way cooler (and chiller) than the los angelenos i have to look at every day. there's something about los angeles that specializes in making neurotic jerks. i should know i serve most of them.

currently, i am at three jobs. its what i do. work to play.
more importantly, i graduate in two weeks. not quite sure what to make of it.

Us finishing the marathon. or semi-marathon as kyle would call it. 8 miles running without breaking a sweat. impressive, i know.

a new buzz

i love movies. i visualize my month around movie releases. and plan my weekends according to movie times.

my two favorite movie buddies would be my mama and jeanne.
heres why.
1) they let me choose the movie.
2) they don't exist loudly. i.e. heavy breathing, restless feet, smacking
3) they notice the funny little things. and make interesting/humorous comments
4) both have very charming laughs. so when they laugh it makes me laugh.
5) AND, they don't get annoyed when i talk during the movie.

in my wildest dreams I am a screenwriter or even better, a DIRECTOR. the first women director to win an academy award. sigh. so cool. long shots without cuts would be my director trademark.

this may. there is a lot to cover.

Back from Seattle

and i LOVED it.

nice people, trees, waterfront, tulips, flying fish market, the cutest houses, fremont, the troll in fremont, diversity, downtown seattle.

the only thing i would disagree on is the weather. it really does suck.

some highlights of my trip
- somehow getting into the private opening of the Jimi Hendrix exhibit at the Experience Music Project.
- calling to see whether our tour guide's name was actually Claire Buoyant.
- Fremont and the troll.
- La Rustica and Sangria. plus the super cute neighborhood of West Seattle
- Kurt Cobain's house. because it meant that much to Lauren and Kyle.

on a weirder note.
i hate passive people.

How to Not Be Annoying

How to Not Be Annoying

  1. Build self confidence. Being insecure can lead to annoying traits. Until you have built your self confidence up don't try too hard.
  2. Break counterproductive habits. If you laugh loudly at everyone's jokes, even if they're not all that funny, read up on how to avoid laughing at inappropriate times. Try a different approach - be genuine and be yourself. If people find you annoying when you're being true to yourself, then you need to find new, more accepting people to be around.
  3. Respect boundaries. Everybody has boundaries - you need to learn what they are and try to avoid crossing them. Boundaries vary widely from culture to culture and even from individual to individual.

    • Do not poke people constantly or tap their heads. In fact, don't touch them at all if they don't like it. Unless it's granted by all means touch them.
    • Mind your own business. Avoid butting into a conversation by (for example) saying, "What are you talking about?" If you hear someone talking about something with another person, and you only catch the last sentence, leave it be.

  4. Be humble. Just because you're confident doesn't mean you have to act like you're better than anyone else. Don't do or say things that might let you appear to be arrogant, like bragging about your wealth or success.

    • Do not correct bad grammar/spelling or inaccuracies of others because most people don't like being corrected.
    • Don't excessively tell people that their beliefs are wrong, gently and nicely mention that you disagree.
    • Don't complain all the time. Remember the world does not revolve around you. If you complain too much, others will find you depressing and avoid you. Read up on how to be optimistic.
    • Learn to listen. Conversation is a two way street. If you're talking constantly, the others will get frustrated and quit trying to communicate with you.

  5. Be conscious of your surroundings dont peek down people's shirts for instance. stand in doorways while having a conversation, driving 20MPH in a 40MPH zone, or if your children are being obnoxious in a public place. Likewise, imposing a bad smell (farting) to the surroundings is interpreted by most to be quite annoying. Be hygienic
  6. Learn to read facial reactions and body movements. Pay attention to the facial expressions and body language of those around you and work to immediately whatever you're doing that is annoying others.
  7. Think of others. For some it is easy, but others, it is not. Try to put yourself in others' shoes and treat others the way you would like to be treated.

this makes me laugh. but its very good advice. I am not the only one who hates when people pat me on the head. +)
